Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (known professionally as Lady Gaga) is a major shareholder in what was originally called Backplane (a company designed for creating themed social networks and browsing others in one app). She invested $1.8 million in Backplane along with Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt when the company was starting in 2011. Soon, companies like Coca Cola, Cirque Du Soleil and Nike started investing in the business and it began to get lost in the market and lose its vision. This is when the business started going downhill. It is now called Place, with Gaga having a reported 20% stake.
Lady Gaga is now worth an estimated $275 million.
