Therm-All: Celebrating 30 Years as One of the Largest Metal Building Insulation Laminators in the US
Michaela McNamara
Celebrating a monumental 30 years in business, Therm-All is a leader that has evolved into one of the largest metal building insulation laminators in the US. With nine locations spread across Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Texas, California and Washington, Therm-All has practically cornered the market on providing a complete line of insulation products and systems along with accessories and pre-assembled door packages for metal building systems.
Therm-All has done this by providing a value-added approach, which distinguishes it from others in the business. The Therm-All approach is about offering a full service to its customers, and one in which the company’s sales representatives can provide expertise and guidance. Therm-All is also proud to have been involved in the development of many insulation quality standards as well as being active participants in the trade associations related to its industry.
“We strive to be specialists in not only insulation, but other factors affecting our industry, such as the latest energy codes,” founder Bob Smigel says.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Therm-All customers receive a product that is tested and certified, so they know exactly what they’re getting. Bob Smigel says, “We don’t leave anything to chance, and there are no surprises with our products. We’re very proud of our NIA certification, and we only use NAIMA certified insulation. In fact, we were the first laminator to have all of our locations NIA certified.”
Aside from a high-quality range of products, Therm-All has thrived for 30 years because of an extensive commitment to customer service. Smigel says, “To us, serving our customers’ needs is about offering not only a superior, quality product, but providing a positive and valued experience for the customer.”
Although Therm-All’s method of executing the company’s mission has certainly evolved, customer service is still at the core of the business. In addition to email and the Therm-All website, our customers can reach out to the company via social networking channels such as Facebook and Twitter.
“It’s just one more measure we’ve taken to ensure accessibility and customer satisfaction. Also, as industry changes have meant additional challenges to meet new customer demands, Therm-All has responded with new products and the technical expertise necessary to help our customers compete in the changing environment,” Bob Smigel says.
In fact, as “green” becomes more popular in the construction industry, Therm-All works with its customers to formulate a customized insulation solution that will both satisfy state requirements and still maximize its customers’ bottom line. “Being ‘green’ does not have to equate to ‘overpriced.’ Our overarching goal is to assist building owners and contractors in making sound economic decisions,” Smigel says.
A POSITIVE COMPANY CULTURE
Therm-All devotes significant resources to the service side of the business to ensure customers receive material when it is needed. The company’s sales personnel are some of the most qualified in the industry, helping customers with energy codes and other important issues. In fact, Smigel believes his people have been the DNA for the long standing, 30-year success of Therm-All.
Smigel started the business with a handful of key employees from the metal building industry. Therm-All struggled to survive during its first year in the recession of the early 1980's. In 1982, however, the company received its first major order of insulation and production marginally increased.
“We strongly believe that our people make our business, and our business is our customer base. Thus, we’re committed to investing in our employees; this includes everything from creating a constructive work environment to providing continuing education opportunities,” Smigel says.
In addition to creating a constructive work environment, Therm-All deploys safety as one of its core values. From offering OSHA-compliant products, such as the Elaminator 300, to encouraging regular safety meetings, the company views responsible jobsite practice as a mandatory piece to our company’s puzzle.
OPENING A NEW CHAPTER
As Therm-All closes the chapter to its first 30 years, and opens a new one, it will still continue to carry on its value-added approach. “We started the business with the philosophy of delivering value to meet the needs of our customers. Our adherence to this core principle is the reason for our success,” Smigel says.
