Niagara Conservation Corporation reduces water usage with high-efficiency products
Nadia Ibanez
Since 1977, Niagara Conservation Corporation has demonstrated a commitment to water efficiency and conservation in both its mission statement and products. Founded by William Cutler, the company has created and maintained its international reputation for developing and manufacturing water and energy conservation products including its Stealth UHET 0.8 GPF toilet, a complete line of high efficiency showerheads and faucet aerators that limit water usage while maintaining pressure, high-efficiency lighting products and its water and energy conservation kits.
While keeping optimal performance in mind, Niagara Conservation Corporation has sustained relationships with the nation’s leading electric, natural gas and water utility companies to promote conservation solutions. The company takes part in the planning, development and management of turn-key energy and water-efficiency programs and has worked with government leaders and other utility officials to make water and energy conservation an integral practice in metropolitan and rural households.
Niagara Conservation Corporation has a global presence with its corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas and other offices in New Jersey and California. International offices include Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Santiago, Chile, Agua Calientes, Mexico and a manufacturing factory in Xiamen, China.
UNIQUENESS IN THE INDUSTRY
Niagara Conservation Corporation’s efficiency products unite performance, reliability and affordability. The company’s water-saving flapperless, low-flow toilets and its Stealth toilets are uniquely positioned in the industry; the latter product is the world’s only 0.8 gallon per flush single-flush toilet. The Stealth toilet can save up to an average of 14,000 gallons of water per year, per toilet, accruing average annual savings of over $117 for each installation, says William Cutler, Owner of Niagara Conservation Corporation.
“These toilets use about one-half of the amount of water that normal households would use,” he continues.
“We not only manufacture and design our products, but we also help implement the products within the utility programs,” Carl Wehmeyer, Executive Vice President of Niagara Conservation Corporation says. “We’re not like traditional manufacturers with layers of distributors, but rather we closely partner with government programs. For instance, we worked with the City of Los Angeles and the government of Saudi Arabia to manufacture custom products for their utility conservation programs. We also worked with them on the installation, marketing and actual distribution of the products to the end users.”
Additionally, Niagara Conservation Corporation attracts people to the company because of its green objectives. “We look for people with a passion that meets our company’s mission of saving the planet from ourselves,” Cutler says. “We’ve been a green company for over 35 years and we work to reduce the country’s carbon and water footprint, while at the same time, saving homeowners money on their water and energy bills.”
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS
One of the biggest technological advancements for the company is the Stealth UHET 0.8 GPF toilet. “The product not only is the first of its kind, but it’s virtually silent when compared to conventional household toilets,” Wehmeyer says. “The product works off a vacuum that pressurizes the trapway to create a swift, powerful and quiet flush that works the first time.”
The company is also currently working with the University of California Irvine to retrofit three of its student housing buildings’ showerheads, toilets and faucets with Niagara Conservation products. “We’re working with the Irvine Ranch Water District and they’re actually recording water meter readings to measure the savings,” Cutler says.
Niagara Conservation Corporation has also worked with the city of Lake Elsinore, California to give away 3,000 Stealth kits, which included an ultra high-efficiency showerhead, kitchen/bathroom aerator and the 0.8 GPF Stealth toilet. “This is a program that should take off all over the country among water companies that have the funding,” he continues. The company works with water companies routinely and has assisted in retrofitting devices in cities like San Jose, San Diego, and Fresno, among others.
The company is focused on single and multi-family properties and works with other public and private enterprises to offer people with low or fixed incomes their water and energy saving products. “Especially with the current economic climate in California, our products resonate with homeowners and property managers because they generate dramatic and immediate savings without sacrificing performance,” Cutler says.
LOOKING AHEAD
In keeping with the current economic climate, Niagara Conservation Corporation is evaluating investing in a toilet manufacturing facility closer to the United States or Mexico. “Making product in North America would be a good thing for us logistically,” Cutler says. The company is also looking to continue innovating by developing products that save even more water. “Hospitality, single and multi-family housing will be our most promising markets in the future.” Even in the current market, the company is growing quickly and will continue its strong growth as long as water and energy conservation remains a market priority.
