KLT Industries - Leading Recycler In New England
Kendall Conners
KLT Industries is a leading commercial recycling company that provides a wide range of cardboard, paper and plastic recycling services to commercial and industrial customers throughout New England. Currently picking up more than 20 million pounds of paper and plastic per month, KLT Industries is the leading recycler of baled cardboard in the Northeast U.S.
About KLT Industries
Founded by Kyle Trayner, owner and president, in 2002, KLT Industries provides its clients with a wide range of services, including off the ground bale pick up service, which services all of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut, as well as the Albany, NY region.
KLT Industries also provides dropped trailers, waste hauling, equipment (KLT also finances and installs baling and recycling equipment), and reporting. This company’s state-of-the-art custom designed computer system is able to track material that is generated by suppliers and provide detailed monthly statements.
This company also has a strong commitment and dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. One way KLT Industries does this is by condensing its travel routes when transporting recycled material from the generator to the consuming paper mills – all material is generated locally, picked up locally and then recycled locally. Also, the company’s extensive fleet of trucks and moffets used to load the recyclables are all run on bio-diesel fuel and its compactors utilize biodegradable hydraulic fluid.
Also, through the use of computerization and GPS monitoring, KLT’s maintenance department can monitor the performance of trucks while they are out in the street. In doing so, KLT can identify any issues that may arise and can track fuel consumption in order to consume the least amount of fuel possible, ultimately reducing its carbon footprint even more.
Not only is KLT Industries dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint, but it also has a strong commitment to corporate and social responsibility. KLT gives back to the community through a program called Green Angels, which is the company’s way of giving back in partnership with each company it services. Based upon the amount of recycled materials, donations are made to various non-profit organizations on behalf of the particular company KLT is partnered with. The goal of Green Angels is to help facilitate quarterly contributions between the company KLT Industries services and the non-profit organization.
What Sets KLT Industries Apart from the Rest
KLT Industries has always been a strong advocate for supporting the local community – the company employs people from the local community and delivers paper to local mills, which fuels their manufacturing process and meets the demand their customers have for recycled fibers. Throughout the region it services, KLT believes in keeping the entire recycling process from pickup, to end user, to customer as closed loop as possible.
“One of the main factors that sets us apart from others in this industry is we transport all of our products directly into paper mills, eliminating a lot of the middle steps,” Kyle Trayner, owner and president of KLT Industries says. “We have had relationships for 20 plus years with mills that we have very long standing supply relationships with, which is another big advantage we have over our competitors.”
Trayner, who founded KLT Industries in 2002, has been in the fiber business and trucking industry for more than 20 years – his father owned a trucking company.
“Growing up in the trucking industry I bring a great logistics and equipment background to KLT,” Trayner says. “This allows us to utilize all of our own equipment, such as trucks, to collect and service our customers, which gives us an advantage.”
KLT Industries is also focused on continuously improving itself and has developed a number of initiatives and strategies to remain ahead of the curve.
“We’ve tried to take a blend of different continuous improvement strategies as we’ve grown as a company,” Trayner says. “We like to maintain a positive and motivating work environment and we try to put our own fun spin on everything as we’re setting goals for people, and helping them to achieve and attain them.”
KLT Industries is also continuously investing in new technology. One such technology is a complete custom design computer system that handles all the customer service tracking and tracks all material that is picked up from customers and transported to mills. This system provides exceptional recording capabilities and helps the flow of operations at KLT run smoother and more efficiently.
Future Growth
“We’ve been very aggressive throughout the past two years in our growth phase and it has definitely paid off,” Trayner says. “And we are looking at growing even more next year, with a 30 percent growth rate next year for the overall company.”
In the future, KLT Industries plans to grow its base of operations throughout New England and possibly expand throughout the Mid-Atlantic regions, while growing its base of mill customers and helping them achieve a better supply chain.
