I can’t help but write about new daily deal sites that pop up over the interwebs and this announcement is making me all kinds of giddy inside. Expedia sent out an email this week about its new partnership with Groupon to bring “unbeatable deals on travel to destinations around the world.” And you better believe I signed up to be one of the first to join the email blast list.
It looks like it’s not just yoga studios, restaurants, spas and concert venues that are offering heavily discounted deals to their neighbors.

Starting later this month, Groupon Getaways with Expedia will take over the discount travel industry and offer social buying deals based off of the Groupon business model. The site will offer a list of travel deals at about 50 percent off retail prices for a limited time. The deals will be good for future travel. Hotel offerings are also slated for the website and will start out with deals in the U.S. and Canada will worldwide expansion in the future.
Groupon competitor LivingSocial already has a travel destination group deal branch with offerings to far away hotels offering discounted accommodations and extra perks. Groupon Getaways is promising discounts on cruises and airfare to stray away from the norm. Groupon and Expedia have more than 50 million social media friends between the two sites so we can imagine many people are just as excited.
We’re already counting down the days until discounted travel deals arrive on our inbox’s doorsteps. And we can imagine daily deal hunters and frugal business people across the nation are thinking the same.
