Verizon Wireless has proudly announced that the iPhone 4 is finally making its way to the most popular cell phone carrier, but they have silently planned to end its longstanding “new every two” deal next week in the midst of the buzz. The promo gives existing customers credits of $30 to $100 off the already-discounted price of a new phone, after they have finished at least 20 month of their two-year contract. How convenient, eh?
So for those who fully exerted their two-year plan and were looking forward to an additional discount for the good behavior of not switching to AT&T to get their hands on the iPhone, there’s still no pay back for being a loyal customer.
Current Verizon customers who are eligible for “new every two” credits have been told they can still be able to use them toward the iPhone, but starting Jan. 16, the company will no longer offer the credit on new contracts and renewals. This change means that those who renew their contracts next month won’t be able to take the credit two years from now when they become eligible for an upgrade.
Customers under the contract before Jan. 16 will be grandfathered in and can savor their “new every two” discount for the very last time. With the additional credit, customers will be able to get the new iPhone for $100 to $170, depending on the terms of their contract.
My family’s personal Verizon Wireless corporate sales representative had this to say about the discount:
“We have not been told if New Every Two credits or if any other discounts are able to be applied. Apple products usually do not receive discounts.
“A data plan will be required, but we have not been told if data plans will be changing.
“Our training and full information regarding the release will not be until the end of the month, closer to the release date.”
