It’s the season where hoards of Americans are working to drop their winter weight and take the New Year by its reigns to get their body back into tip-top shape. In order to make workouts a bit more aesthetically pleasing, Panasonic has connected with Nordic Track treadmills and Google Maps to create a stationary workout that allows walkers and runners to virtually exercise wherever they want in the world via the accurate imagery from Google Maps.
The Panasonic Viera Connect HDTV shows Google Maps and communicates inclines to the treadmill that the user is exercising on to match hills, valleys and straight-aways according to the geography and terrain.
According to the demo video, the interactive workout using a treadmill utilizes iFit powered by Google Maps to access neighborhoods and routes all over the world. Imagine seeing your route on a huge HDTV screen and the panoramas of a coastal run along the Pacific, or the hills of San Francisco for a more exerting run. Run through the streets of Paris or Barcelona, or maybe just get some practice in seeing the sites before your next vacation. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Panasonic’s virtual workout.
Nike+ SportsWatch GPS also released a new product this month, which allows users to keep track of their time, distance, pace, route, heart rate and calories burned from a three-button interface and tap screen. In case runners want to see their progress, they can view their run history from the past, along with personal records imported from Nike+, or keep a lap-by-lap pace for interval training.
